Courses Kicking Horse, Golden
Located in the gorgeous Canadian Rockies near Golden, British Columbia, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) is growing rapidly as one of the premiere destinations to spend your winter vacation. Gaining something of a cult following among serious snow lovers, it boasts the greatest vertical (1,260m) in the Canadian Rockies. The town of Golden, not just a resort town, but a friendly and thriving local centre - a great place to spend your winter!
Become a Snowboard Instructor
PowderTrip’s Snowboard Instructor program is overseen by Trevor Gavura who is based at Kicking Horse. Now it’s true that Trevor may be even less well known than some members of Big Brother, but in Canadian snowboarding circles it’s a different story. More importantly, as CASI’s technical co-ordinator, he’s the man to have on hand if you’re training for a snowboarding exam in Canada – he wrote the manual! For those serious about qualifying as a Snowboard Instructor, we believe Trevor’s involvement makes this program the one to choose.
As members of the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA), both the CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance) and CASI (Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors) are organisations whose training qualifications are internationally recognised. CSIA and CASI qualifiers go on to work seasons at ski resorts around the world.
Want to know more about these organisations? Follow this link for more info www.snowpro.com.
Launchpad Australia and PowderTrip offer you the opportunity to achieve these qualifications:
- CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance) Levels 1 & 2*
- CASI (Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors Levels 1 & 2*
- Canadian Ski Coaches Federation Level 1 (Race)**
- CASI Freestyle Coach Level 1**
* Price of Level 2 CSIA/CASI examination fees are extra.
** Price of additional level 1 examination fees are also extra
Please Note: Level 2 is a challenging examination, demanding complete commitment from students wishing to take it. Certain resorts in Europe may require Canadian certified instructors to have their Level 3 instructor's qualification (an ISIA licence).
Become
a Ski Instructor
Designed to provide each student with the experience of spending a season in a world-class resort; this program delivers everything you need to become a qualified instructor, whilst letting you enjoy the season in the comfortable, supportive, friendly and – above all – spectacular surroundings of the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in the Canadian Rockies.
Offering 12 weeks of instruction 5 days a week, provided by professional, fully qualified instructors, hand-picked from the coaching team at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Each student is enrolled on courses structured to maximise their potential; to build confidence and enhance personal skiing/riding techniques. You'll discover how versatile and quick to adapt you become to the varying terrain and conditions the ski-hill offers. You'll learn about equipment, tuition methods, how to communicate effectively and constructively, and how technical analysis of these sports can bring out, not just the best skier or rider you can be, but the best instructor too.
Whilst the aim if for all program members is to achieve level 1 status by the end of the course, our hope is that – by the middle of the program – you'll be ready for the CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance) or CASI (Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors) Level 1 Instructors exam. Then, upon successful completion of your Level 1, you have the choice of how next you wish to challenge yourself. Do you want to continue training for your CSIA/CASI Level 2? Perhaps you want to study freestyle. Or maybe you just want to use the remainder of the season with us perfecting the techniques you've already learnt. The Kicking Horse instructors will guide you towards the right choice.
And whether you're coming as a novice or a seasoned snowboarder or skier, PowderTrip is able to meet you where you're at. Students will be taught in small groups of 6 or 7, and organised according to ability and experience, so PowderTrip guarantee you'll get the one-to-one attention to detail from instructors aware of your capabilities, bringing out the best in you! This focus on the students was apparent as PowderTrip managed to achieve a 100% pass rate for all those that took their level 1 and level 2 CASI and CSIA examination.
