Like many South American countries, Ecuador is a nation full of contrasts. You will find indigenous peoples and crafts alongside Spanish colonial architecture, massive snow-covered volcanoes and the lush tropics of the Amazon, and modern cities not far from traditional Indian villages and the ruins of ancient Amerindian and Incan civilizations. For a small country, Ecuador boasts an incredible biodiversity, which facilitates fun activities such as whale watching, kayaking, trekking and mountaineering. if your are interested in the arts, Ecuador is the perfect place to discover fascinating, centuries-old indigenous traditions such as intricate sheepskin paintings and impressive pottery, sculpture, and gold and silver work. Add to that, a myriad of archaeological treasures and the finest examples of South American Colonial architecture, and you have got a lifetime worth of cultural studies at your feet.
