Canada - Ski and Summer Work Program
Canada Ski and Summer Work Program

Want to work in Canada? Want the security of having a job BEFORE you leave Australia? You can with Launchpad Australia's new Canada Ski and Summer Work program! With loads of inclusions, it's a great way to organise your Canadian working holiday!

What Kind of Jobs Are There?

Participants will often work in retail, hospitality and tourism (think summer or ski resorts, hotels, restaurants, etc). These roles are seasonal and will usually be for the length of the season. Job offers will be in the Province of Alberta or British Columbia (unless otherwise stated).
What Kind of Pay Will I Get?

Wages will vary according to the industry, the location and the participant's experience, and can range from $CAD5.50 per hour to $CAD14.00 per hour.

How Does the Program Work?

Participants complete the application forms and will have a telephone interview with Launchpad Australia. Based on your skills, experience, preferences and availability, you will be assigned an employer and position: we make every effort to consider your preferences regarding location, however you should be flexible in this area; we believe it is more important that we find you the right job with the right employer!

What Are Employers Looking For?

Employers are looking for outgoing, enthusiastic, committed individuals with some prior work experience (preferably in the area you wish to work in) and who are committed to working for at least 12 weeks (most positions though will be for 16 - 24 weeks), so you should be prepared to accept a position for any duration between 3 and 6 months. Any customer service experience you may have is a plus.

What do I Get?
  • Job Placement in Canada (up to 6 months in length)
  • Exclusive Access to Job and Accommodation Database for 12 months (thus enabling you to locate other positions after you have completed your initial contract)
  • 2 nights quality dorm accommodation
  • One way airport transfer from Vancouver airport to the hostel
  • Informative Orientation session at Launchpad Australia's partner office in Vancouver
  • Fast-tracking of your Social Insurance Number (takes just 6 days instead of weeks!)
  • Bank Account Assistance
  • 1 hour free internet per day while in Vancouver
  • Cheap printing and fax facilities
  • Mailholding Service
  • Local Canadian Contact for emergencies or questions (during office hours)
  • Pre-departure Handbook
  • Discounted Travel Insurance through QBE Travel (discount only available when arranged through Launchpad Australia)
Some employers based at resorts are also able to provide staff accommodation and even meals!

To apply for the Canada Ski and Summer Work Program, you need to:
  • Be eligible for and obtain a Working Holiday Visa for Canada (Click here for details on how to apply for this visa)
  • Have practical work experience, preferably in the field you wish to work in
  • Be able to begin work at the beginning of the season: For Summer the season starts from late May and goes until September, and the Winter season starts from late November and runs to April / May.
  • You can apply at any time of the year, but you must be able to start at the beginning of one of the seasons, and allow at least 2½ months before your preferred arrival date (more if you still need to apply for your visa).
How Much does the Program Cost?

$AU999

How Can I Apply?

    • A passport sized photo (scanned is acceptable)
    • 2 written references (employment references preferred)
    • Updated CV
    • Cover Letter to potential Host Companies summarising your skills, experience and why you would like to participate in the Canada Ski and Summer Work Program
    • you will also be required to pay your Program Fee at this time
    • Optional (but highly recommended): provide a brief (up to 4 mins. in length) video presentation of yourself with your application, introducing yourself, why you would like to participate in the program and what strengths you can bring (treat this like an interview, so dress appropriately, smile and 'sell' yourself!). You can do this with a compatible digital camera or webcam, and transfer the video file via email to Launchpad Australia. Providing a video will make your application more appealing to employers as they will be able to gauge your strengths and personality readily.

  2. Once your application and video have been received, we will contact you to arrange a telephone interview. This will help us confirm your eligibility and assess your skills, experience and preferences.
What Happens Next?

We will send your application/video and interview report to our Canadian partners who will then match you with a suitable position. The prospective employer will potentially telephone you for a discussion of the role. If the telephone interview* goes successfully and the employer agrees to make a job offer, we will send you the details of the employer, the position and the location of your new role via email. We will also send you out your Job Offer participation Agreement for you to read, sign and return to Launchpad Australia. This confirms your position, and you are on your to an awesome Canadian working holiday!

* If you are not successful at this interview, you will be matched with a new role, and the interview process will begin again (maximum of 3 job assignments).
